How the Egyptians Inspired Greek Art

In this activity, we will take a look at Egyptian art and make a couple of drawings, starting with this one of the Kouros.

Remember that the Ancient Persian empire included Egypt as well, and in a few weeks, we will learn that the Greeks defeated the Persian empire in 331 BC.

To the young artists–please be warned that in this video there are some pictures of statues without their clothes on! Because we are real artists we have decided to leave the photos as-is, so that we can start to learn how to look at art as though we are in a museum. We understand that ancient cultures were making these sculptures based on the human body and although it might make us giggle, we can learn a lot from these beautiful works of art!

So grab your journal and a pencil, and get ready to make an awesome drawing inspired by a Greek statue!

Supplies Needed:

  • A piece of white paper (or a journal/sketchpad)

  • A pencil
