How to draw a walking Egyptian

In this activity, we will learn how to recreate a classic pose used by Ancient Egyptians to depict the human form.

Remember that Ancient Egyptian civilization spanned from 3150 BC until the Greeks defeated the Persian empire (of which Egypt was a part) in 331 BC.

To the young artists–please be warned that in this video there are some pictures of statues without their clothes on! Because we are real artists we have decided to leave the photos as-is, so that we can start to learn how to look at art as though we are in a museum. We understand that ancient cultures were making these sculptures based on the human body and although it might make us giggle, we can learn a lot from these beautiful works of art!

So grab your journal and a pencil, and get ready to make an awesome drawing inspired by an Egyptian Hieroglyph!

Supplies Needed:

  • A piece of white paper (or a journal/sketchpad)

  • A pencil
