Japanese Art Through the Ages

History Lesson:

Our youngest students in Studio B studied Japanese art from ancient times through the Edo period. Through lectures, journal time, and art-making, students learned about the Jōmon, Kofun, Yayoi, Nara, Heian, and Edo Periods, experiencing the full breadth of Japanese art. Through each period they discussed important cultural moments, food, social structures, and more. At the start of each session, students took notes and drew sketches of their upcoming projects.
